XVDL adds one download button to X/Twitter videos and saves available MP4 files directly to your Downloads folder. No URL copying, paste-in service, or media upload.

Install with Homebrew

Copy all three lines, paste them into Terminal, then open XVDL once.

Or place the app yourself

  • Download the latest macOS ZIP from GitHub Releases.
  • Unzip it and move XVDL.app to Applications.
  • Open XVDL once before enabling the extension.

Set it up once

Enable it in Safari

  • Open XVDL. Launch the app once after installation. Its only window links directly to Safari’s extension preferences.
  • Safari → Settings → Extensions. Select XVDL and turn it on for this Safari profile.
  • Website access. Set x.com and twitter.com to Allow.

Return to a post. The XVDL button appears only when that post exposes a downloadable MP4 variant.

Add to Dock

Safari web apps too

XVDL also works in Safari web apps created with Add to Dock. Open the web app, choose its name in the menu bar, then enable XVDL under Settings → Extensions and allow the same website access.

The file goes to your Mac, not through us.

XVDL does not collect, store, sell, or transmit user data. It does not upload downloaded media or video metadata to a server.

Sends

No analytics, download history, or media uploads.

You decide

Only save videos you own, have permission to download, or are otherwise authorized to keep.
